Arizonans want elected leaders to focus onthe most pressing issues - job creation, record foreclosures, public education and health care. While most Arizonans struggle with the most difficult economic downturn in recent memory, Senate President Pearce avoids addressing our concerns and misdirects his attention through the following bills:

SB 1519: TERMINATION OF AHCCCS

This bill will terminate AHCCCS. That’s $900,000,000 that will no longer go towards the indigent, the mentally ill, and the poor who need health care.

SB 1405: ADDING REGULATION TO HEALTH CARE INSTITUTIONS

Before a hospital admits a person for nonemergency care, a hospital admissions officer must confirm that the person is a citizen of the Unites States, a legal resident of the United States or lawfully present in the United States.

HCR 2001: COMMUNITY COLLEGES; UNIVERSITIES; CONCEALED WEAPONS

Allow community college and university faculty members to possess a concealed weapon on school campus grounds.

HCR 2029: INITIATIVES; PERIODIC REAUTHORIZATION

Threatens the minimum wage, clean elections and other citizen initiatives. This would require reauthorization of citizen initiatives on a periodic basis.

SB 1287: HEALTH INSURANCE; OUT-OF-STATE INSURERS

Allows out-of-state insurers licensed in other states to operate in Arizona; renders any health care insurer regulations in the state virtually worthless.

SB 1611: IMMIGRATION OMNIBUS

This bill requires proof of legal status to operate vehicle in Arizona. Offenders would face a class 1 misdemeanor, 30 days in jail and would forfeit the vehicle to the state. Enroll a student in any public or private K-12 school. Schools must report violations to law enforcement and the Arizona Department of Education. Attend an Arizona community college or university. Receive federal public benefits, including emergency medical services, vehicle title, purchase a new vehicle and register a vehicle. It also requires landlords that receive public-housing funds to evict any resident that allows an illegal immigrant to “reside” in their unit.

SB 1001: OPPOSITION; GAMING; NEW INDIAN RESERVATION

Resolution expressing to federal government the legislature’s opposition to the new Indian reservation in Glendale

HCR 2196: STATE PARKS; PRIVATIZATION

Requires the private operation of state parks.

HCR 2288: AIRPORTS; PRIVATE CONTRACTORS; SECURITY SCREENING

Requires outsourcing of all regulatory functions in airports, regardless of the impact on passenger safety, cost or jobs.

HR 2505: SCHOOLS; PUPILS; LAWFUL STATUS; STATE AID

Demands schools to report the number of non-citizen students and punishes schools that do not report by withholding State funds.

SCR 1010: JUDICIAL DECISIONS; INTERNATIONAL LAW

Prohibits state courts from using international law in decisions; based on Oklahoma law prohibiting the use of “Shariah law”

HB 2002: SCHOOL DISTRICT MONIES; ASSOCIATIONS; ELECTIONS

Prohibits schools from paying dues to associations that are politically engaged.
